A Case report of Osteogenic Sarcoma of the Mandible

Abstract

|
Osteogenic sarcomas(Osteosarcomas) is defined as a malignant neoplasm of bone that produces osteoid or immature neoplastic woven bone. Osteosarcomas of maxilla and mandible are relatively rare tumors, account for approximately 20`1 of all sarcomas and the most common primary bone tumors. About 5--7% of osteosarcomas occur in the jaws. Osteosarcoma in these sites are frequently parosteal and osteoblastic osteosarcomas. As a result, their biologic behavior differs from that of tumors involving the skeletal bones : the average age of onset is 10 to 20 years later than for skeletal lesions, the histopathologic variables are more favorable, distant metastases occur less frequently, and survival rates are higher.
